What is Adamax? What it does, benefits and what the evidence shows
A compound sold as a variant of Semax that, as far as we can find, appears in no published study at all. Here is what we searched, what the parent compound's record does and does not tell you, and what three lab-tested vials showed.

Key facts
- Adamax is sold on the research-peptide market as a modified version of Semax, but we found no peer-reviewed paper, trial record or DailyMed product that describes it.
- New Zealand's Medsafe named Adamax and Semax in a June 2025 submission as ACTH-analogue products marketed as cognitive enhancers, without giving a structure for Adamax.
- FDA's bulk-substances page, current as of April 22, 2026, does not list Adamax, but lists Semax as 'nominated but withdrawn' over immunogenicity and limited safety data.
- In rats, replacing Semax's first amino acid kept, reduced or abolished its learning effect depending on the substitution, so Semax data cannot be assumed to transfer to analogs.
- A 2016 study found that acetylating the front end of Semax changed its copper binding and removed its protection of neuroblastoma cells from copper toxicity.
- As of September 29, 2026, VendorVerify's database holds 3 Adamax vials from 3 vendors, 99.26% to 99.81% pure, measuring about 3%, 7% and 24% over label.
Adamax is a research-market compound described as a modified version of Semax, and we could not find a single peer-reviewed paper that describes it. We searched PubMed, Europe PMC full text, ClinicalTrials.gov, DailyMed and FDA's compounding page and found no study in humans, none in animals, and no chemistry paper defining what the modification is. Every claim you will see for Adamax, about focus, memory or neuroprotection, is therefore anecdote or borrowed from Semax. Semax has a real but narrow research record, and nothing in that record transfers automatically to a different molecule.
What Adamax is (and what we could not confirm)
We cannot give you a sourced definition. Adamax is sold as a derivative of Semax, but we did not use seller pages as sources, and no primary source we opened gives its structure, who made it, or why. That matters, because it means nobody outside the sellers has published what the molecule is or what the change to Semax was meant to do.
Semax itself is a seven-amino-acid peptide built from an ACTH fragment plus a Pro-Gly-Pro tail, developed in Russia. A 2025 paper from the Russian research group that studies it states that Semax is included in the Russian List of "Vital and Essential Drugs for Medical Application" (Decree No. 2406-r of the Government of the Russian Federation, October 12, 2019) (Radchenko et al., Acta Naturae, 2025). Our Semax guide covers that record in full, including its limits: small Russian studies, mostly without a placebo group, and rodent work. The sibling peptide Selank comes from the same research tradition.
Why the Semax record cannot be borrowed
The published Semax-analog literature is a useful warning. In rats, a comparison of Semax and versions with the first amino acid changed found that some changes kept the learning effect, some reduced it, and some abolished it (Glazova et al., Izvestiia Akademii Nauk. Seriia Biologicheskaia, 2005). A separate study found that acetylating the front end of Semax changed how it binds copper and did not protect neuroblastoma cells from copper toxicity the way Semax did, which the authors tied to the free amino end being important (Magri et al., Journal of Inorganic Biochemistry, 2016). Those are other analogs, not Adamax, and we are not saying Adamax behaves like either. The point is narrower: in the studies that do exist, small edits to Semax changed results in both directions, so "it is Semax plus something" is not evidence that it works, or that it is safe.
Approval status
We found no approval for Adamax anywhere we looked. A DailyMed search on September 29, 2026 returned no product, ClinicalTrials.gov returned no study, and the name does not appear on FDA's page of bulk drug substances that may present significant safety risks for compounding, which was current as of April 22, 2026 (FDA). We did not search other countries' regulators' databases, but New Zealand's Medsafe named Adamax and Semax in a June 2025 submission to its Medicines Classification Committee as ACTH-analogue peptide products marketed as cognitive enhancers, and recommended that ACTH analogues be classed as prescription medicines; the document gives no structure for Adamax (Medsafe, June 2025). The same FDA page lists Semax among bulk drug substances "nominated but withdrawn" from category 2, with FDA saying compounded Semax may pose immunogenicity risk for certain routes of administration because of aggregation and peptide-related impurities, and that FDA has no, or limited, safety information for the proposed routes. That is FDA's statement about Semax, not Adamax.
What people use it for
| Claimed benefit | Evidence | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Focus, memory, "nootropic" effects | Anecdotal | none |
| Neuroprotection or stroke-related recovery | Anecdotal | none |
| A stronger or longer-lasting version of Semax | Anecdotal | none |
Every row is Anecdotal because there is nothing to grade. The evidence levels for the parent compound, Semax, are laid out in our Semax guide.
What the research actually shows
Nothing. That is the finding. A search of PubMed for Adamax together with peptide, Semax or nootropic terms returned no records, and a search of Europe PMC's full text returned only unrelated machine-learning papers, where "Adamax" is the name of an optimization algorithm. Searches for Semax together with adamantane or adamantyl terms and for adamantane with the ACTH fragment sequence turned up no paper describing such a compound. ClinicalTrials.gov returned no study for the name. It is possible that a paper, patent or conference abstract exists under a different name that we did not find, and if you have one, please tell us. Until then, we would describe Adamax as a compound with no independent published description.
Side effects and risks
Unknown. Without a published structure there is no way to say what the compound is metabolized into, whether it is more likely to provoke an immune response than Semax, or what happens over time. There is no human safety data, no animal toxicology we could find, and no regulator-reviewed profile. What we can say is limited to what independent lab reports capture: how pure a vial was and how much was in it compared with its label.
What the lab tests show
As of September 29, 2026, VendorVerify's database holds 3 Adamax vials from 3 vendors, reported in April 2025, January 2026 and August 2026. Purity ran from 99.26% to 99.81%. Amounts came in about 3%, 7% and 24% over the labeled amount. One vial had an endotoxin result, which passed. None met our failure definition (empty, under 95% pure, more than 20% under label or more than 50% over). Three vials from three vendors is too few to say anything about any seller, and these figures describe each vial against its own label. They do not say the compound does anything, and they cannot tell you it matches any published description, because none exists.
Because we don't have enough lab data on this compound to rank vendors for it, here are the highest-ranked vendors across all compounds right now. A vendor's overall record is a signal, not a guarantee for a compound they have never had tested.

Full vendor ratingsBuying smarter
Check our Adamax results page for new reports, then look at each vendor's full record and how many reports sit behind the score. Treat a vendor-posted COA as a starting point (how to read a peptide COA, fake peptide COAs). For a compound with no published reference, an independent test of your own vial is the only check on what you actually have; how to get a peptide tested walks through it, and endotoxin in research peptides covers when to add that test.
If a report comes back a fail, stop using that batch, tell anyone who bought from the same run, bring the report to the vendor, and submit it to VendorVerify. Our peptide hub lists every compound we track, and what are grey market peptides explains the market itself.
Database figures are from VendorVerify as of September 29, 2026. This isn't medical advice; Adamax is sold for research use only, and we found no approval for it and no published study of it.
Figures in this article come from the lab results on VendorVerify as of Sep 29, 2026. The vendor and peptide pages always show the latest numbers.
Frequently asked questions
What is Adamax?
It is a compound sold on the research-peptide market and described as a modified form of Semax. We found no peer-reviewed paper, trial record or regulatory listing that describes it, so we cannot give a sourced structure or explain what the modification is.
What does Adamax do?
Nobody has published evidence of what it does. Claims about focus, memory or neuroprotection are anecdotal or borrowed from Semax, which has small Russian studies and rodent research behind it. See our [Semax guide](/blog/what-is-semax).
Is Adamax the same as Semax?
It is described as a Semax derivative. The published Semax-analog studies we found show that small changes to Semax altered results in both directions, so Semax findings cannot be assumed to carry over.
Is Adamax safe?
Unknown. We found no human or animal safety data for it. FDA has said compounded Semax may pose immunogenicity risk for certain routes of administration and that it has limited safety information, and that statement does not cover Adamax.
Is Adamax approved by the FDA?
We found no approval. A DailyMed search on September 29, 2026 returned no product, and the name is not on FDA's page of bulk drug substances that may present significant safety risks, which was current as of April 22, 2026. Semax's Russian listing does not extend to Adamax.
Is Adamax better than Semax?
There is no published comparison of the two. Any claim that it is stronger, longer-lasting or better tolerated has no source we could open.
